Fear
Anger
Frustration
Impatience

What wants winnowing Poppa
What wants winnowing in me

My heart

My soul

My mind

Blow away the chaff Poppa
Clean out all the gritty bits that stick
And fume
And fester
And foil

Fill those spaces with
Love
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Gentleness

Towards

All that causes me

To need winnowing

Morning Prayer on Canada Day

Father, this morning I awake
Grateful to live here
Grateful for the profound privilege that I was born into

Poppa there is brokenness and sadness in your land and today I repent for

The many ways that I and those who have gone before me have used our privilege to lord it over others

For the many ways that in thought, words and actions we have done harm, so much harm

For the many ways in which I and those who have gone before me have participated in systemic racism so to perpetuate our privilege

For the many ways in which our greed and the unfair use of our shared resources has caused terrible suffering for others

For the many ways in which our thoughts, words and actions have facilitated and promoted systemic racism in this land

For the many ways in which we have thought and acted without love, without compassion,
without kindness, without care.

For the many ways in which I and those who have gone before me have been complicit in thought, words and actions in the sin of and then the covering up of the sin that led to the suffering and deaths of so many children and members of their families

I repent in sorrow and shame for my own sin and the sins of those who have gone before me

Help me to listen with compassion and to learn with humility

Help me to live in love

Creator God please heal our land.

I pray these things in the strong name of Jesus
Who lived and died for love

Amen

Your Voice

Your voice
( I long to hear)

Your voice
(perhaps)

Your voice
(requires still the bitter thing)

Wait
Forgive
Hope
Trust
and still yet wait some more

Another Sunday

He lets me rest in green meadows;
He leads me beside peaceful streams.
  He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
    bringing honor to his name.

Psalm 23: 2-3 (NLT)

Another Sunday

And I wake to the dull ache of

The Text

The Unwelcome Voice
Interrupts

Comes unbidden
And

Disrupts

And

Discombobulates

And

Memories
(now mostly healed)
Threaten to fester
And

I

Call to You Jesus

For help

And

You

Rescue

Me

again

The Courtroom

You render all things well
Knower of all truth
Understander of all things
Your judgments are true, perfect and wise

When the accuser stands before You and

makes

his

case
(against me)

In that magnificent courtroom over which You preside
I can only but agree and repent in dust and ashes

And then

Hide myself

Align myself with

You

Jesus

Redeemer of my soul
